MYRA MARIEZKI FATHIRA, known as Myra [mahy-ruh], graduated from UNPAD in 2008,
majoring in English Literature and from Mercu Buana University with a master in
Media Business and Industries in 2016. She is an unaffiliated English teacher who
believes that to master a certain language, you have to make it an essential
part of your everyday life.
When
she was 22 years old, She traveled to Germany by herself and stayed there for a
year. The first week staying there, she could barely speak any german. However,
getting exposed to the language on a regular basis made her able to eventually
speak german with ease. From this
experience, she realizes that to become effortlessly fluent in a foreign
language, someone has to get submersed in the language itself. Thus, as an
English teacher, she always makes sure that her students get as much exposure
as possible to English, that includes urging them to speak only English in the
classroom, regardless of their grammatical mistakes.
Outside
the classroom, she considers herself as a happy wife and an avid reader who is still pursuing a professional writing career.
She indeed has a great passion for writing. She writes essays, novels and
poems. She won Sampoerna Foundation’s Writing Competition in 2007 and became a
first winner of Times Writing Competition in 2009. In 2011, she finished her
advanced writing course in Monash University Australia. At the moment, she is
working on her first novel.
